If Smolder and Thorn get married, that would make Smolder king, meaning that Onyx is a princess again. And since Sunny does not want to be the queen, Onyx is the only heir. Unless Thorn and Smolder have dragonets, Onyx is going to be queen one day.

No, they have.
Just once, thousands of years ago, Jerboa created the Onyx to save the SandWings from their evil princess, and then from then on, her descendants were royalty until Thorn came along
Moonwatcher Beauty wrote: That istechinally true, but in book 10 it said that the SandWings have had none-blood-related queens, and also queens who have no royal blood in them. :\
I mean, look at Thorn
Yeah, but they were chosen by the Eye of Onyx.
True, true
No offense toward Onyx, but I hate her. She gets on my nerves during Darkness of Dragons, trying to come up with a plot to kill a great queen, Thorn. But it does make since that she's sort of an heir to the SandWing throne, due to my brother, Smolder. I think that if she was ever the queen of the SandWings, she might pull the kingdom apart.
I'm kind of mad that Thorn was instantly a perfect queen. Running an entire kingdom is different from running a small place in the middle of the desert.
It doesn't have to be said directly to know she is.
Well it seems like Smolder loves Onyx, and if he does, then Thorn may become her adopted mother.
Stepmother, not adopted mother. When you marry somebody, if they have any children, you're considered their stepparent. So if Thorn and Smolder marry, then Onyx is Thorn's stepdaughter and Sunny is Smolder's stepdaughter.
